It is safe to say that 2020 has been one hell of a ride so far, and no one would have been able to predict what has happened with the worldwide pandemic. With people in quarantine across the globe, some have found new and innovative ways to add something special to their days. After all, with shops, entertainment venues, events, and pretty much everything other than supermarkets closed, what else is there for people to do? With quarantine rules changing in each country, some people have been allowed a few minutes to walk each day while others have been totally housebound with nothing more than a trip outside of their house for garbage day. This was the case for Australians, and they certainly did it in style. Citizens across Australia created their own dress-up challenge, and they are absolutely hilarious. Let’s take a look at some of the best, could you do better?
It’s Garbage Day for Joe Exotic
Now the pandemic is not the only thing that no one could have predicted. Taking the world by storm is the Netflix docuseries, The Tiger King and we have to be honest, we can’t help but wonder if the show would have been as popular without the home quarantine rules. Joe Exotic is one of the most famous cast members, and this guy in south Australia got his outfit spot on.
Heading to put the dustbin out, he wore a sequined jacket, a fake blonde mullet hairstyle as well as a stuffed tiger! Now that’s on-trend!
Supergirl To The Rescue
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s Supergirl. This woman looked like she was having a ball embracing the Supergirl character, and she had no problem playing up to the cameras. Red cape and all, it looks as though Lois Lane could have some serious competition, and somehow, she has even managed to color coordinate with the dustbin.
Taking an exciting run down her driveway, she has the ‘one arm in the air’ Superman stance locked down, and one thing is for sure, she looks as though she is having a great time doing it.
Is Ironman really making a comeback?
Raise your hand if you shed a tear when Ironman died in the Marvel movies, Avengers: Endgame? Well, we certainly did, and we are over the moon to see him back on his feet again, taking it nice and easy and taking the garbage out. The Marvel franchise broke fans’ hearts when they said goodbye to Ironman, but this guy wanted to keep his character alive.
The kids next door were said to be big fans of the superhero, so this neighbor wanted to try and cheer them up after their school was closed. Well, he certainly did.
Now you see him, now you don’t
With rules pretty strict and fines in place, no one wants to get caught being away from their home, and this person was not about to take any chances. Looking as though he was about to take part in an army boot camp, no one could guess who this was.
Covered head to tie in grass-like camouflage, even the police could not spot him, and if they did, all he would have to do is roll onto the grass next to him and disappear. Although Australia can be very hot and this costume doesn’t look like it has too much breathing space.
Where’s Wally?
Where’s Wally has been around for years and entertains not only children but adults too. First-ever published in 1987, the character has been popular with those looking for a fancy dress outfit for a long time. A puzzle book that is all about trying to find out where Wally is hiding in hundreds of different animated scenes, can you see him here?
You’ll know it’s Wally from his red and white shirt, glasses and of course, his bobble hat (come rain or shine). This guy thought it would be hilarious for everyone taking the bin out dressed as the famous Wally. So, where is he?
Cruella Deville
There are so many movies available to watch, and this woman learned that her child was obsessed with the classic cartoon, 101 Dalmatians. Taking the bin out, she went all out, and her outfit has got to be one of the best we have seen. With a couple of real-life Dalmatians herself, she absolutely pulled this outfit off.
From some extra stuffed dogs to the wig and outfit, she has major Cruella Deville vibes, and you should stay away, just in case.
Table For Two Please
These times can certainly be lonely, and it takes all of our strength to keep ourselves entertained these days. Well, this woman took garbage day to a whole new level when she set up this double date for her and, you guessed it, the garbage bin.
Getting all dressed up, the bin even wore a top hat, and the pair enjoyed some rose wine together. She really went the whole way with this one.
United States of America
Showing some love to the United States of America, this family sent their kids to take the bins out and gave their best impressions on the current state of America.
With a little mini president in a full-on tailored suit pushing a miniature Statue of Liberty down the driveway, this is one of our favorite attempts. We love the efforts this family went to, and we’re sure it really filled up sometime in their day.
Jurassic Park
Did anyone see the viral video of the dinosaur running down the street during quarantine hours in Europe, well it looks as though these people have stolen the idea? Buying their very own his and her dinosaur outfits, this married couple had a lot of run-on garbage day.
Running around their driveway, they went one step further and played the Jurassic Park theme tune from their house, leaving everyone on the street in fits of giggles.
Happy Wedding Day
This couple was planning on renewing their vows; however, their plans were pushed aside due to the pandemic. Still wanting to do something, they thought they would join in with the garbage day challenge. Tying the two together, they got all dressed up with the bride and groom-esque clothes and sipped champagne on their driveway.
They even added a dickie-bow on to one of the bins as if it was a guest. They were sure to stick to the distance rules as well.
Maude’s day out
Neighbors went wild when their local celebrity slipped into her glad rags to take the bin out. Dressed in her favorite blue frock and yellow plastic wig, drag queen Maude Boate had no problem strutting her stuff down the street.
It is probably one of the most un-glamorous photos calls she has ever had to do. Well, at least her hair matches the garage bin lid. We’d love to see you in this challenge again, Maude!
The Yip Yips
89Believe it or not, Sesame Street first came out back in 1969 and is now on its 47th season. The show has always been a hit with both children and adults, with humor written in for all age ranges. How many of us know the words to the theme tune, Can you Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street? Well, can you remember the Yip Yips?
Cause this person certainly can, so much so that they celebrated garbage day by dressing up as one. “Yip-yip-yip-yip.”
The Silence Of The Lambs
This one is hard to call, for some horror movie buffs, they will certainly love this The Silence Of The Lambs inspired outfit, but if you’re anything like us, then you may just find it totally freaky.
However, he does get a ten out of ten for effort, we just hope he has someone inside the house to get him out of those ropes. “Being smart spoils a lot of things, doesn’t it?”…
Her Royal Highness
And on one day, in particular, the people could not believe what they saw, it was the Queen herself. Or was it? This lady in red pulled out this Queeny outfit with the grandest crown one did ever see. With a ruby glistening away on the top, she even has the royal wave down.
Her royal magistracy will make any kind of appearance if it gets her out of the house, even if it is garbage day.
Sit Boy
This gorgeous little fella is part of the Bull Terrier dog breed. They are known for being sweet-tempered, protective, and active. Originating in England, some can even reach a weight of 38kg, and one of the biggest compliments of the breed is that they are very trainable.
This boy shows himself off completely as he sits by the side of the bin in his dapper suit. And is that a smile we see? What a good boy.
Horror Movie Fans
It looks as though The Silence Of The Lambs fanatic had got some serious competition. Bicycle and all, this Saw outfit gives us the heebie-jeebies.
Funnily, he tied the bin to the bike and dragged it around the front lawn, looking totally spooky and playing up to the character. “Do you want to play a game”? It is a no from us!
Kentucky Fried Chicken
This man needs no introduction, Sir Colonel Sanders, the genius who created the mouth-watering fast-food chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken, best known as KFC.
The second-largest chain in the world, even those who don’t like fried chicken, know who this fancy dress is, and if it was not for those sandals, then we would be giving this outfit a ten out of ten. But anyway, an A for effort for this one.
There’s some competition
Well, it looks like the original Supergirl has got some serious competition. Sneaking around in the night, Supergirl was caught red-handed.
But what about all of the other superheroes? Why aren’t they getting a look in? We’d love to see more of the Marvel characters, or even Superman himself?
Lego CowGirl
Another childhood favorite, this young girl, absolutely killed it with this Lego Lady outfit. Founded way back in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen, we are sure he would love to see his brand be worn in this game.
Ready in her cowgirl outfit, even the backdrop is the perfect fit. If we’re honest, we had to look twice at this photo to make sure it was a person inside a costume! Yeeeeeehawwww!
I Scream, You Scream
Really not wanting to get caught flouting the rules, this person opted for a double-layered costume. Not only did they climb inside of a tent, but they covered their face as well. Pulling the bin along, this person popped their face out to check who was there, and the photographer captured this image.
If there is one mask that everyone is aware of, its the Scream mask, and this one never gets old.
Harley Davidson Crew
You better be on your best behavior, The Harley Crew is in town. This bike lover was beyond sad about not being able to hit the highway for a cruise on his Harley Davidson bike, so he put his thinking cap on. Knowing the only activity he could participate in was garbage day, he turned the bin into a bike.
Leather waistcoat included, he drove his new baby out to the street and kept a close eye on her.
Highland Fling
73Is that a Kilt? Why yes, yes it is. This proud Scott pulled out his groomsman outfit from his wedding. The kilt is a very proud part of Scottish heritage, which dates back all the way to the 16th century.
Available to wear at any occasion, this man wanted to get dressed up in his favorite kilt, giving the nod to the Gaelic boys and men of the Scottish Highlands.
Sleeping Beauty
45Be careful what you wish for, its Maleficent. Made popular amongst adults thanks to Angelina Jolie’s rendition of the fairy tale character Maleficent, this guy headed out on bin day oozing the Sleeping Beauty Character.
You certainly wouldn’t want to mess with him. That is some definate commitment to the costume!
