While the weather outside may be cold and gloomy, Seattle literally lights up over the Christmas season and the city becomes a beautiful winter wonderland. From late November, throughout December the city fully embraces the jolly season and shows off some major holiday fanfare. Here are some of the best things to do in Seattle over the holiday season.
See the Christmas light displays.
From the beginning of December, Phinney avenue is transformed into a festive fantasy when the annual Christmas light displays are turned on for the public. Here you can sip on the best hot chocolate you have ever had while eating chestnuts and enjoying the twinkling festive lights. It’s a great activity for the kids because the light display reaches from the Woodland Park Zoo to the Candy Cane Lane.
Hit the ice
At the beginning of December the public ice rinks all over the city open up but one of the best is the Winterfest rink located at Seattle center and polar plaza in Tacoma. Here the family can enjoy ice skating, live performances, and even ice sculpting.

Its guaranteed family fun and a great way to welcome in the winter and the holiday season. There are also outdoor holiday light displays and child-sized amusements that run until January.
Cruise aboard the Christmas ship
Each year the argosy cruise company transforms some of its fleets into magical Christmas boats. Each boat is thoughtfully decorated from bow to stern with holiday lights and decorations and the boats travel all around the bay and up towards the local lakes. See the city at night from a lit deck and if you get too cold you can always head to the dining hall for a very special Christmas party.

The boats are so beautifully decorated that even from the shore they look inviting.
