These Funny People Recreated Famous Paintings At Home

With more and more people stuck at home with a lot of time on their hands, challenges on social media are becoming increasingly popular. Recently some of the world’s most famous museums asked people to recreate some of the most famous paintings using only household items. It all started when the famous Getty Museum reached out to followers on social media, and now people everywhere are using social media to show their art appreciation.  With so many people at home self-isolating, many were up for the challenge. In the end, the results were quite funny to see. From ingenious uses of toilet paper to perfectly timed pictures, keep scrolling to see some of the most outstanding painting recreations done at home

American Gothic


This modern take on Grant Woods classic painting American Gothic is a perfect description of modern life. With some shades thrown on and a plaid shirt, this couple looks ready to roll.

This kind of makes a nice spin on a cult classic, and the couple who created this recreation hit the nail on the head. Throw in some face masks, and the recreation would be perfect!



Old Bucket Head


When the museum asked people to use household items to recreate paintings, we don’t think they expected people to be so creative with their materials.

While many made use of toilet paper and their pets in their recreations, this sneaky lady made use of some creativity and an old bucket. We have to admit, besides the bucket, this is a pretty good recreation of the original. What do you think?

Dude, Nice Toilet Roll


Now, this recreation is brilliant for two reasons. Firstly, the expression on this young man’s face is hilarious. It is so good you can just imagine this becoming a meme soon.

Secondly, his use of toilet paper instead of shirt ruffles is hilariously creative. With people rushing to buy toilet paper at the begging of enforced social distancing, this clothing choice is even more on point. You can tell this guy had a blast recreating this famous painting.



Laundry Day


Talk about being creative! When this lovely lady decided to recreate this famous Frida Kahlo self-portrait, she searched the house for the perfect props. Surprisingly she found them in the laundry room.

Instead of parrots, she had used various bags, tubs, and bottles of laundry detergent as stand-ins. With their bright green coloring, these props almost look like the birds. The best part, though, is where she substituted the thermometer for the cigarette. She may have this competition in the bag!

Nice Horse Napoleon


This painting recreation is the perfect example of just how bored people get during self-isolation. They must have been willing to do just about anything to pass the time.

This brave man and his trusty stead decided to recreate this famous painting of Napoleon Crossing the Alps. We must say it is pretty funny. With his friend wearing a horse mask, the determined look on his face is an amusing recreation. The addition of the sombrero is just the cherry on top. One thing for sure, they certainly had fun putting this picture together.

Looks Legit


As soon as the museums issued their challenges online, many people shared images of themselves recreating a painting by Frida Kahlo. But not many of the recreators were men.

When this guy chose his subject matter, he wasn’t gonna let the fact that he wasn’t a woman get in the way. In fact, his rendition is hilarious. With his drawn on unibrow and inventive use of a bottle opener, this recreation looks surprisingly similar to the original. Good job!

Perfectly Timed


While most people have been locked up and self-isolating indoors afraid to go out. Others have been brave enough to at least venture into the garden. When these teens saw the challenge online, they decided to head outside for their recreation.

Using a  perfectly timed photographed, they perfectly recreated the famous The Creation of Adam fresco by Italian artist Michelangelo. While one friend lounged in the pool, the other dived into the pool from the diving board. At the perfect moment, a third person was able to snap this pic. While it may not look real, this is actually one of the most perfectly timed pics. Naturally, it took them several tries to get it just right.

A Group Effort


Self-isolating with your entire family can be a lot to handle, especially for larger families like this one. Luckily they found a great way to pass the time.

The family decided to recreate this famous painting, and it looks like they had a real blast. It looks like having a full house isn’t so bad after all. We especially love how they made use of a stuffed toy as a hound. Very clever!

Holding Something Precious


Nowadays, in some places, toilet paper can be more precious than fresh produce. With stores running low at times, and people stockpiling like crazy, toilet paper is one of those things people are willing to fight for. What’s weird is no one knows exactly why people began stockpiling it in the first place.

Something Fishy


Well, this was quite an ambitious painting to try and recreate. With the majority of Picasso’s famous paintings being abstract, any recreation would take a lot of work. However, this woman pulled it off quite well, and she actually looks pretty cool.

With a simple blue towel draped around her shoulders and a yellow scarf, all she needed for her look was a fish. Luckily she had a rubber one just hanging around. Her unique personal style has really shone through her, and her look came off looking pretty cool. A+ for effort!

Grandma is Living Her Best Life


It’s not just the younger generations getting in on this challenge. When a day nurse in a nursing home saw the challenge online, he decided to get the old folks in on the joke. With self-isolation in effect and none of their family’s coming to visit, the fan and dress up was exactly what these old folks needed to pass the time.

Each resident had a blast, and they each picked their own painting to recreate. This old gal was really in character when she posed for this pick, and it just arms our hearts that these elderly people got to be included in all the fun.

Nice Hat


Vincent van Gogh’s self-portrait with Bandaged Ear isn’t an easy painting to recreate. This is mainly because the subject matter is a little sad, but luckily this woman managed to pull it off with a humorous spin.

With a bicycle helmet as a hat and some toilet paper over her ear, she was good to go. What made this recreation perfectly funny was how she switched out van Gogh’s pipe for a half-eaten banana. Now that is creative!

That’s Quite a Big Baby


When this couple decided to join in on the painting recreation challenge, they really decided to have some fun with it. Instead of choosing a conventional painting of a man and woman to recreate, they went a little off-book.

Using their wit and some sheets from around the house, they were cleverly able to recreate Andrea Mantegna’s Madonna and Child painting. The catch, of course, is that this burley, tattooed boyfriend is posing as the baby. We don’t know about you, but that just gave us the giggles.

This couple in Iceland really pulled out all the stops when they recreated this famous painting. Although their outfits are made of random things they found around the house, their recreation is pretty amazing.

When the painting challenge was issued, one of the first people to join in the fun and post their picture online was a museum curator. He decided to recreate a famous Holbein painting that features a young maid.
