Captain Marvel: The details that fans missed

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been many people’s alternate universe thanks to the long list of films that allow us to explore worlds beyond our own. The beginning of this epic saga is 2008’s Iron Man and has continued through the much anticipated Avengers: Endgame. The cult following around these films are a true testament to their creative greatness and the epic storylines that got us all hooked from the very beginning.

While we will not give away spoilers from the new film, we did go on a deep dive into the missed details that viewers missed in Captain Marvel. The backstory of Carol Danvers, which was the inspiration for Captain Marvel, gives a lot of context and much-needed information that helps piece together the character development through the last film in the saga. Each and every Marvel Cinematic Universe film is connected to the other and their storylines converge in the final movie. This is the end of an era, but we are sure to watch and rewatch these films many times over (and over and over).

The reasoning behind Stan Lee’s appearance

Prior to Stan Lee’s sad passing in November 2018, he was able to make his final cameo appearances in both Captain and the final Avengers film. Stan Lee was the creator of Marvel Entertainment and has had a cameo in his films for years.

The cool thing about his cameo in Captain Marvel is that he is reciting lines from Mallrats, a film he also had a cameo in back in the 90s. It’s Stan Lee inception!

Is it Fury or a Skrull

In Captain Marvel, Nick Fury meets with Carol Danvers in a pub. There, the two work together to fight the Skrulls. The Skrulls are known as spare shifters and can take on any form they like. As a result of their abilities, Carol asks Fury a question that only the real Nick would know the answer to.

The little piece of information is that Nick will not eat a piece of toast if it is cut diagonally. However, in the film Age of Ultron, Nick seems to be eating toast diagonally, leading fans to think that it is a Skrull and not Nick.

90s references galore

Carol’s story takes place in the 90s, which means that we get to relive that epic decade alongside her. In Captain Marvel, we get to enjoy 90s classics like the music – 90s grunge being the personal favorite for that one, the 90s references like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Carol’s Nine Inch Nails shirt.

Also her use of an old school large computer screen which she uses to search for something on AltaVista, which would never fly these days with our love of Google. The 90s references are throwing it back in the best way possible and making us also glad we survived it.

The last Blockbuster

In the film, Carol crashes into a Blockbuster video store, remember those? Well, this store was not a part of the film’s set, but rather the last store of its kind in the world. The film’s creators wanted to make everything as authentic as possible so it was their mission to find this store.

Now, the store gets fans arriving at its doors to complete their Marvel fandom. The last branch of Blockbuster also has a Twitter account that seems to be the one to follow these days, milking their presence on the big screen for all they can.
