When it comes to visiting Paris we all dream about visiting certain notable sites. The trouble is that as the single most visited metropolitan area in the world, everyone who visits Paris has had the same idea. So to avoid lines and crowds and also avoid those time-sucking, money-guzzling tourist traps, here are some things to avoid.
Don’t get caught in souvenir shops
If you are looking for something fantastic to bring back home with you, you are not going to find it in a Parisian tourist shop. These places sell only mass-produced, tacky souvenirs that will cost you an arm or a leg. Paris is full of second-hand shops, flea markets, and perfumeries where visitors can buy more authentic gifts.
On 7-9 Rue Jules Vallès, you can find an adorable antique store where you can find beautiful keepsakes, small items, and even religious artifacts. The cities most famous flea market is Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. Be sure to hide your wallet at the flee market though because you may encounter one or two pickpockets.
Try to stay clear of the Eiffel Tower and Champs-Elysees
While everyone wants to take a trip up the tower or go for a stroll down the Champs-Elysees, these places are well known, dedicated tourist areas. If you are looking for a more authentic Parisian vacation then try your best to spend as little time in theses areas as possible. Be brave and venture out because that’s when things get really authentic and beautiful. Plan your trip ahead of time and focus on fascinating neighborhoods and the more unique spots. Feel free to ask the locals for their favorite spots if you are unsure where to go.
Avoid Chain restaurants
Don’t just fall back on the familiar when it comes to eating out. Paris is home to some amazing restaurants where the food is sublime yet simple.
But these restaurants cannot be found in the tourist areas so you will have to brave the unknown and venture out. Talk to the locals and plan your next meal instead of eating unpalatable streetfood or ordering from a chain restaurant you can also find back home.
