Safari Adventure: Chobe National Park

Elephants are the crowning glory for a lot of national parks but Botswana’s Chobe National Park is by far one of the best for elephants and other wildlife. If you want to fully experience the majesty of the animal kingdom than you will need to go here during the dry months which occur from May to October. During this time elephants, Cape buffalo, lions, and hippos converge on the riverfront. As there is no rain during this time the river becomes the primary water source for them which means you will be able to go on safari and pretty much be guaranteed to see some amazing wildlife.

Safari Time

There are many different types of safaris you can do here from multi-day ones to simple day trips from close by Livingstone in Zambia. It simply depends on how much time you want to spend under the stars of the African sky surrounded by the kings of the animal world. First, you will go on a cruise down the Chobe riverfront where you will see elephants drinking, spraying water on themselves and enjoying the mud flats. From there you will continue in a game viewing vehicle where you will travel inland to see some big cats. You will definitely want a good camera for all of this.

Safari Lodges

Some safaris will offer you two options when it comes to sleeping arrangements. The first will be tents out on the open grassland with just you and the stars. The second will be at a safari lodge with all of the amenities of a hotel. Chobe Savuti Safari is one of the best because it is the most remote. You have to fly-in to the lodge and from there you can sit down by a fire pit at night and listen to the sounds of nature. This lodge became famous when Elizabeth Taylor came to stay with then-husband Richard Burton and it has continued to be one of the most luxurious and best situated in terms of wildlife viewing.
