40 Incredible Details Behind The Making Of Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders has captivated viewers around the world. Steven Knight’s criminal tale has lasted four seasons, and throughout that time, it has grown its global appeal beyond its initial UK audience. And it’s not slowing down anytime soon – Knight stated a few months ago that it will take seven seasons to fully portray the Shelby criminal family’s narrative, so the show will be on for at least another three seasons. He wants the “story of a family caught between two wars” to end with the first air raid siren in 1940. So, before Tommy Shelby’s story comes to a close, Cillian Murphy will still be walking the streets of turn-of-the-century Birmingham. Here we bring you a few behind-the-scenes facts.

Steven Knight Avoids All Other TV Drama

While Steven Knight writes and produces one of the best and most popular drama series on television, he actively avoids watching other dramas in order to avoid imitating what they are doing.

The Peaky Blinders creator is concerned that if he watched shows like Boardwalk Empire or The Wire, to which his program is frequently likened, he could be tempted to follow in the footsteps of those shows and stray from his own artistic vision.

Cillian Murphy Smokes 3,000 Cigarettes Per Season

Cillian Murphy does not smoke, unlike Tommy Shelby, who smoked like a chimney in the 1920s when no one knew how detrimental it was for your health. As a result, when his character was compelled to smoke, he chose a rose-scented herbal blend.

Murphy was told that those special cigarettes include all of the natural nutrients that the body could need. The prop people let him know that he smoked around 3,000 per season.

Most Of The Series Is Shot In Liverpool

Despite the story happening in Birmingham, Peaky Blinders is shot all around the United Kingdom. Leeds, Manchester, Bradford, Dudley, Bolton, and Keighley were all used to film parts of the episodes. Furthermore, a portion of the filming takes place in Birmingham.
