If you’ve been living the vegan lifestyle for awhile now, then you know how important it is to find travel destinations that are vegan-friendly. The vegan lifestyle both for health and ethical reasons has steadily been gaining a following throughout the world, which has made four very special places vegan hotspots. For the vegan traveler, these four destinations are an absolute must, and they will broaden your vegan culinary senses.
Ubud has made waves as a backpacker and yogi destination for years. Everywhere you turn there is a yoga studio, or a hostel. Now, it has begun to make a name for itself with its vegan culinary scene. With the lush vegetation of Bali surrounding Ubud, many unique ingredients are used to flavor the vegan food. Dragon Fruit is found in a lot of the smoothies, and passionfruit desserts can be found at almost every restaurant. One restaurant every vegan visitor has to try is Sayuri Healing Food.
Tel Aviv, Israel
When people think of Israel, they tend to think of the holy sites and the beaches. However, there is a massive vegan population within Israel, which has given birth to some of the best vegan restaurants in the world. Tel Aviv, the biggest city after Jerusalem is home to over 400 vegan restaurants which all boast their own unique dishes. Some hotels even offer a vegan food option, for the guests that don’t want to worry about finding vegan food options outside of the hotel. However, if you’re in Tel Aviv you simply have to try some of the restaurants, especially Anastasia and Meshek Barzilay.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
While the Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular are known for certain legalized substances, there is also a surprisingly great vegan food scene. Not only are there some excellent vegan restaurants to sample, like Vegan Junk Food Bar and Meatless District but there are a ton of cool boutiques. As the city itself is all about green energy, the many boutiques that line the canals also offer ethically made fashions and accessories. You can find some lovely vegan leather pieces to bring home as souvenirs.
Last, but certainly not least is Portland, Oregon. This lovely city in the Pacific Northwest boasts one of the most eclectic vegan culinary scenes in the United States. In fact, there are so many socially conscious people and vegans that there is an entire mall dedicated to all things vegan. Head to the vegan mall and check out Sweetpea Baking Co. for some truly delectable desserts. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also opt to get a vegan tattoo to commemorate your time in this vegan-friendly city.
