Abandoned Movie Sets From Famous Movies
We hold many great memories dear to our hearts of those cult classics that won us over, no matter how long it has been since we have watched the plot unfold before our eyes. Those motion movies ingrained themselves in our collective consciousness from reel to reel. But, aside from that, what else do we recall? The location! Sometimes a film is nothing without its setting in which the story unfolds and the action, drama, or comedic situations take place. And there are films that are only remembered for their sets. If you’re intrigued about such sets and their current condition, here are the locations of abandoned movie sets from some of your favorite movies from the last few decades.
Pirated Of The Caribbean (2003) – Wallilabou Bay, St. Vincent
The film was released in 2003, bringing in a lot of money for Disney as well as the myriad of actors who were fortunate enough to be in the film. Gore Verbinski, a veteran of big-budget films, directed it. It also introduced moviegoers to the famed and iconic Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, who skillfully brought the role to life.
The shores of the lovely island of Willilabou in the gorgeous St. Vincent, Port Royal, a spot considered to be a pirate’s haven nestled on the northern shores of Jamaica, were one of the locations of the second chapter.
Star Wars/The Empire Strikes Back (1980) – Tunisia/Morocco, North Africa
The place chosen to give life to Tatooine was ideal for showcasing the extraterrestrial planet in the Star Wars films, which have brought the studio billions of dollars. Despite the fact that others have called the franchise—especially its newest installments—a touch “too much,” the reboots have performed fairly well, and there is a definite fan base that won’t give up on these characters.
If you wish to see a “galaxy far, far away,” the locations utilized in the series have been entirely abandoned in the Moroccan and Tunisian deserts. Regardless, these films are unquestionably classics in the annals of cinema.
The Hunger Games (2012) – Charlotte, North Carolina
Written by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games is a popular trilogy of books that were adapted into a popular film franchise of the same name. It starred Jennifer Lawrence and it catapulted her to stardom. The filmmakers didn’t have to travel far to film the movie, as the entire Capitol sequence was shot in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The environment was ideal for achieving the emotions depicted in the text, and it was expertly portrayed on screen. Anyone interested in visiting the set is welcome to do so, but be prepared to feel a little spooked out because it’s mostly vacant.
Tim Burton’s “Batman” (1989) – Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, England
To say the story of the DC hero known as Batman has been adapted for film a number of times is an understatement. This character is about to embark on yet another reboot with new actors. For the original Tim Burton film from 1989, the cast and crew traveled to the United Kingdom to film several scenes set in the fictional Gotham City, and it was there that the world’s toughest comic book neighborhood was brought to life.
Of course, the sets are now unoccupied, but many people have gone there to take a few photos after they were abandoned.
