Working together on set and doing endless press tours means that co-stars end up spending a lot of time together. Most of the time, these actresses and actors build strong friendships. Other times, however, actors can become irritated by their co-star’s habits and personalities. So while these stars may have amazing chemistry on screen, behind the scenes, they don’t necessarily get along. Eventually, this frustration can build until finally, these actors refuse to work with their co-stars again. Keep reading to find out which co-stars refused to film together on some of the biggest sets.
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
The Notebook is one of the most quintessential romance flicks of the century, and its a love story that sets hearts aflutter everywhere. But would you believe that the lead actors just didnt like one another? It’s true, even though they come from the same home town Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams just did not get along behind the scenes. Gosling actually asked to film the overly romantic scenes with a stand-in rather than with McAdams!
Once the film hit theaters, it became public knowledge that the two were now dating. Maybe Gosling was trying to fight his feelings for the actress by replacing her. Clearly, it did not work. Either way, if that’s how the pair really felt about each other, it just goes to show what good actors they are.
Wesley Snipes And Ryan Reynolds
Big stars are known for some of there not so nice habits, Wesley Snipes being among the many. While filming Blade: Trinity, he supposedly spent the majority of his time in his trailer smoking certain substances and generally being uncooperative. He would also refuse to film any scenes with Ryan Reynolds and insisted that their stand-ins be used for these interactions.
According to a reliable source, actor Patton Oswalt snipes reportedly didn’t want to be on screen with Reynolds as he felt Reynolds’s character stole Blade’s spotlight. Reynolds took it all in stride and did his best to keep things amicable. According to other sources, at one point, Snipes got so angry that he tried to attack the director of the film and called Reynolds names on set.
Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi
Fans of The Good Wife will remember how slowly actress Archie Panjabi had less and less screen time with the other lead characters. It wasnt long until sources began reporting on animosity between Panjabi and Julianna Margulies on set. Soon the two actresses stopped filming scenes altogether. And after the third season, it was clear that the scenes they both appeared in were clearly edited together and used standing.

The word is still out on what exactly happened, but it must have been terrible for these two actresses to continue filming the series with zero interaction between them. It seems fans got the short end of the stick on this one because many loved the interactions between the two characters.
Shia LaBeouf and Alec Baldwin
Being a method actor can have its ups and downs depending on the role one is preparing for, and Shia LaBeouf is no stranger to this. In fact, much of LaBeouf’s strange behavior over the years has been attributed to him being in character. Apparently, when he was in character for his role in the play Orphans with Alec Baldwin, he went a little bit too far. While in character off stage, and not during a rehearsal, he got furious at Baldwin and lashed out.

LaBeouf argued that it was all done in character but the other actors just couldn’t handle his tirades any longer. Proving to be too difficult to work with, LaBeouf was fired. Baldwin maintains that there is no bad blood between the two, though.
Shannen Doherty & Alyssa Milano
Fans of the original run of Charmed will remember how Shannon Doherty left the show abruptly after just three seasons. While it was hard to see one of the favorite characters leave, the rumors about the star’s departure quickly began to spread. The feud between actresses Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano quickly became common knowledge in Hollywood.

Doherty is rumored to have been fired from the show after fellow actresses Alyssa Milano, and Holly Marie Combs complained about Doherty’s behavior on set. The actresses had huge personality clashes that they just couldn’t get passed. It wasn’t until Doherty became seriously ill recently that they put their feud behind them, and Milano and Doherty had a beautiful reunion.
Bill Murray and Lucy Liu
Bill Murray is known as the lovable, funny guy and not as someone who you would think would openly criticize a fellow actor. However, during the filming of Charlie’s Angels, it was reported that Murray forced production to stop filming so he could inform Liu that she had no talent and he didn’t know how she had managed to even make it into the film. It took plenty of convincing for the director to get Murray to finish filming and Lui was apparently mortified by his statements.

After this unpleasant exchange, naturally fellow actresses Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore come to their fellow Angels’ defense and they refused to ever work with Murray again. While he did later apologize, this is the rumored reason for why he was replaced as Charlie in the sequel that came out in 2003.
Gene Hackman And Gwyneth Paltrow
Wes Anderson has been making critically acclaimed movies for well over two decades but one movie had some serious casting difficulties. The Royal Tenenbaums starred Gene Hackman as the father of the Tenenbaum clan and he was allegedly appalling to work with according to co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Anjelica Huston.
Gwyneth Paltrow found Hackman’s constant demands and rude remarks to be overwhelming and at one point he was so rude he made his co-star cry. But the person who took the brunt of Hackman’s abuse was Anderson himself who was constantly told what a bad job he was doing. Both Paltrow and Houston have refused to work with Hackman since and even Ben Stiller is wary of future collaborations.
Will Smith and Anthony Michael Hall
Some actors are willing to do anything in the name of art but not a young Will Smith. During the filming for Six Degrees of Separation, his character was supposed to share a kiss with Anthony Michael Hall. He could not bring himself to do it, as he was worried about what his friends and family in Philadelphia would think.

Due to this, a body double was found for the scene but Smith admits that this was a poor choice on his part and he should have filmed the scene himself.
Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore
These two stars have had a tumultuous friendship. Friends during Heat, not friends during Red Planet, and now back to being friends again. Val Kilmer is known as a difficult actor to work with for anybody but Tom Sizemore and he got on pretty well to start.

That is until the two had a fight over a workout machine at the gym. This fight was apparently so bad that they came to blows. It sounds like someone was using it for too long or maybe someone did not spot the other when lifting. In any event, it seems like something silly to make these actors hate each other.
Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte
The film I Love Trouble from the early 1990s may not ring any bells but what should is the fact that Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte who starred in it both loathe each other now. When they were filming it they both took an instant dislike to each other and the crew reported that they would constantly exchange insults.

This eventually forced them to find stand-ins for every scene they were ‘supposed’ to be in together and they could not be in the same room let alone on camera. Since then Roberts refuses to even be in the same room as Nolte.
Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones
When you throw a comedian and a serious actor together who is a bit of an old school cowboy, its no surprise that things will get messy. That’s exactly what happened when Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey worked together on Batman Forever. Jim is known for making jokes on set and apparently this drove Jones absolutely nuts. Eventually, one day on set Jones yelled at Jim because he wasn’t taking the role seriously.

The culmination of their feud was when Carrey ran into Jones at a restaurant and Jones simply stared him down and told him, “I cannot sanction your buffoonery.” Since then the two have never worked together again. Talk about cold Tom!
Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn
Coming off of Game of Thrones this is one of the only instances of bad blood and it did not happen on set. Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn had dated prior to being cast on the fantasy epic and had gone through a very bad break up.
It was so bad that when they were having their contracts drawn up they asked that a clause be included stating they would never have to film scenes together. And they never have.
Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel
It would be impossible for some of the machismo of these two men from The Fast and the Furious franchise to not spill over and cause some confrontations. Dwayne Johnson or The Rock and Vin Diesel are not seen in any scenes together post-2016 because of an Instagram rant from Johnson.
The two decided that they did not mesh well as actors or peers and it was in production’s best interest to make sure they no longer had to share screen time.
Bill Paxton And Helen Hunt
Anyone who has seen Twister will think these stars get on swimmingly, but Helen Hunter and Bill Paxton just cannot stand one another. The two actors were constantly fighting between scenes and it got to the point where they would not even talk to each other. Naturally, this made the press tours and red carpets for the movie very uncomfortable.
With Twister being such a success, Universal Studios Florida decided to open a Twister Theme ride. The actors were then asked to do a promo for the ride. Well, they did what they had to but completely separately which forced an editing team to cut their separate segments together. The two haven’t worked together since.
Kirk Cameron and Julie McCullough
These two stars of the sitcom Growing Pains started out alright but when Kirk Cameron decided to become a born again Christian the dynamic between the two shifted. Things that he once found acceptable about Julie McCullough now went against his faith, such as her posing for certain magazines that he deemed to be immoral.

In fact, he was so disgruntled by what his co-star was doing he may have gone to the production team and asked she be let go from the show. Whether or not this is true is just another Hollywood mystery.
Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson
Making a good horror flick is hard, making one when one of the stars puts in zero effort is even harder which is what Luke Wilson brought to the proverbial table during production on Vacancy.

Kate Beckinsale found it to be such a lackluster experience shooting with him when he showed up late, wouldn’t go over lines, or even stand-in with her that she refused to be in scenes with him unless they were close-ups.
Emma Watson and Channing Tatum
Not wanting to be typecast for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, actress Emma Watson signed on to be in the comedy This Is The End. She was strongly opposed to any of the raunchy comedy skits that her character was supposed to be in, including one with a very scantily-clad Channing Tatum.

She decided it was too much for her and refused to film any scene that she thought was not wholesome. Apparently Tatum took offense to this and it seems to have created some bad blood between the two. While Emma has her limits Tatum thought she was being a bit too uptight and it’s unlikely we will be seeing the pair on screen together again.
Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio
These two have never shared the big screen after their epic performance in Romeo + Juliet. The young couple embodied this tragic couple completely but behind the scenes, it was another story. Leonardo DiCaprio was the set clown and was often trying to get Claire Danes to lighten up and have fun.

She did not appreciate this as she takes her roles very seriously which caused the two to stop talking to each other. She wanted him to grow up and he wanted her to be more laid back.
Tyrese Gibson and James Franco
The exact reason why Tyrese Gibson has said he will never work with James Franco is not the clearest but he maintains that he never will after starring alongside him in Annapolis. James Franco is known for going method sometimes and maybe he was not as kind offscreen as he could have been to Gibson.

In any event, Franco holds no hard feelings but Gibson sure does. Don’t expect to see them sharing the big screen any time soon.
Paris Hilton and Tina Fey
Tina Fey is much loved in Hollywood and she is known for her kind personality. So it came as quite a shock when she badmouthed Paris Hilton on The Howard Stern show. After the pair worked together on Saturday Night Live Fey had a few harsh words to say about Hilton and her attitude.

When on set, Hilton was said to have been rude to the crew and was “full of herself,” she even went so far as to comment on somebody’s weight! Fey said that she would never work with Hilton again, under any circumstance.
Lindsey Lohan and America Ferrera
Lindsey Lohan once made a name for herself as the child star who graced our screen in much-loved movies such as Parent Trap. However as she has got older, she has made another name for herself and is known to often be problematic on set and while she was on set of Ugly Betty she managed to ruffle a few feathers.

Originally her contract stated that she would be in 6 episodes of the show but she only managed to record 4, until the producers asked her to leave. The staff found her very hard to manage and grew tired of her constant smoking and diva-like demands. America Ferrera was said to be appalled by her behavior and encouraged the producers to tell her to leave.
Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs
Back in the 90’s everyone loved Jennifer Lopez and P.Diddy, who’s real name is Sean Combs and they were the couple that everyone was talking about. However, something happened which resulted in a rather messy break up after three years together.

The pair have both moved on however it appears that they are still unsure of each other. While Lopez was working on the American Idol panel, Combs was asked to make a guest appearance but he refused because of Lopez and said that she makes him feel uncomfortable.
William Shatner and George Takei
In another galaxy, the sci-fi television and film series Star Trek has had its own ongoing feud between actors William Shatner and George Takei. For unknown reasons, the two have simply not gotten on for the last few decades. Takei tried to fix the situation by inviting Shatner to his wedding with now-husband, Brad Altman but Shatner did not deign to put in an appearance.
Rumor has it he did not even acknowledge he received an invitation. Except for a “hello” and a “goodbye” at press events the two do not talk. Shatner has clearly beamed himself to anywhere Takei is not.
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford
The reasons for the feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are relatively unknown, some sources have speculated that there may have been some romantic tension. The problem was that the two made excellent movies together like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

Which led them to try and make Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte. It seems like whatever the cause of the friction was it was too much for Crawford and she walked off the set forever.
Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair
The world knows how difficult Charlie Sheen can be and although he has those who don’t speak so highly of him or agree with the things he says, he also has quite a few fans. His popular show Anger Management starred Selma Blair alongside Sheen.

The chemistry between the pair was quickly noticed and the bond they shared quickly became different from what it once was and their relationship completely flipped. The chemistry they shared turned into arguments and hatred between each other. After two years, Blair was asked to leave the show.
Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone
These two acting veterans seem like they would know how to keep their cool but back during the filming of The Lords of Flatbush in the early 1970s, Gere and Stallone almost found each other coming to blows over a chicken lunch gone awry.

Gere was eating his chicken with gusto when some mustard squirted onto Stallone who was extremely insulted. The ensuing fight was so bad, over some mustard mind you, that Gere was replaced in the movie. Stallone maintains that that feud is ongoing, even though it has been over 40 years. Someone is still feeling saucy.
Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels
Things were not all fine and dandy on the original Star Wars trilogy set. The two actors who played R2-D2 and C3PO were anything but friends in real life. On the big screen, the two are often joking with each other but off-screen Daniels would ridicule Baker.
He particularly liked to draw attention to Baker’s size as he was born with dwarfism. It got to the point where Baker no longer wanted to attend any reunion events because he wanted to avoid being ridiculed by Daniels in the public sphere. Daniels would even mention Baker’s size in press interviews and clearly did not see anything wrong with his comments.
Jamie Foxx and LL Cool J
The two are friends now and have even collaborated on some music together but back when they were filming Any Given Sunday things were not so amicable. A lot of testosterone was thrown around during the filming for one of the football scenes and the two starting fightings with each other.
The police were called in to break up the fight but their friendship definitely took a few blows until the two actors decided to grow up.
Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson: Avengers: Endgame
Press interviews for Avengers: Endgame revealed uneasiness among the cast members. Brie Larson retaliated angrily when Chris Hemsworth compared her to Tom Cruise. “I perform all my stunts,” Hemsworth said.
“See, this is the thing,” Larson responded. I did my stunts because I assumed everyone else did them.” “Kind of Tom Cruise over here,” Hemsworth quips half-jokingly. “No, I’ll be the first me, not the next Tom Cruise,” she concluded.
Bruce Willis And Cybill Shepherd: Moonlighting
Watching stars Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd in Moonlighting was a fantastic experience. Their personalities seemed to be the most suitable couple in a comic film.
However, while the iconic couple was enjoyable to see on-screen, individuals in their immediate vicinity could not say the same. Everyone could tell the actors despised each other, and Shepherd went out of his way to confirm this during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Julia Roberts And Steven Spielberg: Hook
In 1991’s Hook, one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood teamed up with a legendary director, and fans were ecstatic to see this pairing. What could possibly go wrong?
However, throughout the making of the iconic picture, Spielberg and Roberts were continually at odds with one another, and Roberts earned the moniker “Tinkerhell.” They both eventually expressed their perspectives on the subject with news outlets, which didn’t help matters.
Marlon Brando And Francis Ford Coppola: Apocalypse Now
Marlon Brando and Francis Ford Coppola’s relationship was so tense that Apocalypse Now was on the verge of being canceled due to a flung curse word.
Coppola had to cope with actors having heart attacks, rainstorms damaging the set, and many financing breaches in the 1979 film. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Coppola. Fortunately, the picture turned out to be a classic, but the two never collaborated again.
Will Smith And Janet Hubert: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Not in a million years did we anticipate that these co-stars disliked each other. Aunt Viv was played by Janet Hubert in the first three seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Fans were left perplexed when Daphne Maxwell Reid replaced her.
Hubert, according to Smith, was a big diva who wanted to take over the show. Consequently, when she announced her pregnancy, Smith asked the producers to replace her.
Edward Norton And Tony Kaye: American History X
The portrayal of hatred in American History X isn’t for the faint of heart. Behind the on-screen violence and hostility, the film’s director, Tony Kaye, and lead actor Edward Norton had a very bad relationship.
After the film was completed, Norton over-edited the final version to the point where Kaye refused to acknowledge it as his. He even requested that the directing credit read “Humpty Dumpty” rather than his name.
Chevy Chase And Dan Harmon: Community
The truth is that Chevy Chase hasn’t received much praise from his peers. The comedian is well-known for his roles in Caddyshack and Saturday Night Live, and despite his considerable success, Dan Harmon regrets hiring him on Community.
The comic frequently went off set early, made multiple jokes about Donald Glover, and was critical of the show on a regular basis. In 2012, he announced his departure from the show.
Bruce Willis And Kevin Smith: Cop Out
Kevin Smith wrote and directed the buddy police action comedy, which starred Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. And while the picture had all the makings of a hit, with Smith and Willis becoming fast friends while shooting together on Live Free or Die Hard, things did not go as planned this time around.
Willis thought Smith was slacking entirely too much during filming, while Smith thought Willis was being obstructive.
Isaiah Washington And T.R. Knight: Grey’s Anatomy
Regardless of how much turmoil Grey’s Anatomy depicted on-screen, it appeared like the true drama was taking place behind the scenes. Things became particularly hot in 2007 when Washington, in the midst of his problems with fellow actor T.R. Knight, hurled a horrible homophobic insult on him.
Knight was really outraged at the moment since he had yet come out of the closet. Washington was sacked from the show.
Nathan Fillion And Stana Katic: Castle
When Castle and Becket married in season six of Castle, fans were finally able to let go of the “will they, won’t they” predicament that had hung over the relationship for so long.
Surprisingly, the actors were becoming increasingly estranged behind the scenes. In fact, Fillion, who played Castle, became so irritated with his co-star that he refused to remain on set with him and demanded shorter sequences between them.
