Bride fell out with her bridesmaid because of her pregnancy bump

Weddings are meant to be an occasion when friends come together, share the love around, and have a great time. We all know that the golden rule of any wedding is to make sure you don’t upstage the bride, and in general, most people make sure they stick to this rule. A bride thought one of her bridesmaids was doing something wrong because of her pregnancy, and the internet is divided about how it feels.

Sometimes after something big happens in someone’s life, they aren’t sure how to process what has just happened. One woman had recently gotten married, but the ceremony didn’t go so smoothly after she fell out with one of her bridesmaids.

The bride felt as though her bridesmaid was trying to steal her thunder when it came to the wedding photos. Oh, and there was the added complication that the bridesmaid was pregnant in the mix.

Asking for validation

The bride wanted to know if she was a bad person for feeling the way she did about her friend. She asked in a Reddit group if it was bad she had to tell her pregnant bridesmaid to stop stealing the limelight.

The bride felt as though her pregnant bridesmaid kept drawing attention to her baby bump during the photographs. Everyone knows you should avoid upsetting the bride at all costs, but this newlywed’s blood began to boil inside. How could her close friend make the wedding photoshoot all about her when she was just the bridesmaid?

Highlighting her belly

The problem for the bride was that her bridesmaid kept putting her hands on her belly during the photographs. The wedding party was being photographed between the ceremony and the reception when the trouble started. As the bride and groom’s family and friends were posing for photographs, the bride couldn’t help but notice something her bridesmaid was doing.

The bridesmaid was drawing attention to her pregnancy bump by making it clear from the fabric of her dress that she was with child. All eyes were not going to be on the bride with everyone’s attention being drawn to the bump.

Seven months pregnant

The bride explained on the Reddit thread that the bridesmaid, Kate, was seven months pregnant, so she wasn’t going to be able to hide her bump. The wedding was three weeks before the bride created her post, and the bride said her friend’s bump was easily accommodated in her dress.

According to the bride, Kate’s dress had a flowy skirt and a fitted bust, so there was plenty of room to keep her bump under wraps. Unfortunately for the bride, Kate couldn’t hide the fact that she was pregnant and people were always going to spot her in the photographs.

Noticing right away

It didn’t take long for the bride to realize what Kate was doing when posing for the photographs. The bride said that in one of the very first photographs that Kate was in, she could see that she was holding her hands differently to everyone else.

It became apparent that Kate was doing this to make sure and show off her pregnancy bump to the camera. There was something about the way she was flattening the fabric in her dress that made it super obvious that Kate was heavily pregnant. Inside, the bride began to fume about Kate’s ‘obvious’ pose.

Trying to stop it

Once she noticed what Kate was doing in the pictures, the bride kept a close eye on her bridesmaid. After a little while, she realized she was going to have to say something to Kate to make sure her bridesmaid didn’t continue to steal her thunder.

One reminder apparently was not enough, and the bride claimed she had to tell Kate to stop several more times. This was her wedding, but the way Kate was asking it felt to the bride as though she wasn’t the main attraction.

It was beginning to feel a little bit like Kate’s very own maternity shoot, and the bride wasn’t that happy about it. The tension was beginning to build between the bride and Kate.

Enjoying the reception

Although the bride was feeling tense about the wedding pictures, it was time for her to move on as she had a party to enjoy. Putting the photograph drama to the back of her mind, the bride moved on from the baby bump photos, but didn’t forget about them.

The wedding continued, but Kate’s thunder-stealing actions didn’t disappear. Was the bride wrong for asking Kate to stop posing the way she was at the wedding?

The wedding went on, and the bride didn’t have anything more to say about Kate’s actions on that day. Her bridesmaid presumably behaved herself for the rest of the party, and the bride said she went on honeymoon after the wedding.

Strangely silent

Kate and the bride were good friends before the wedding. According to the bride, she and her bridesmaid would make sure to talk to each other at least every few days. They were the closest of friends, but when the bride eventually got back from her honeymoon, she hadn’t heard a peep from Kate.

The strange thing was that the bride had actually messaged Kate, but she had received no response from her pregnant bridesmaid.

Radio silence

The bride and Kate had a very close relationship, so not hearing anything from her bridesmaid was a pretty clear message. Kate was definitely keeping her distance from the bride following their disagreement over the wedding photographs.

The bride said she “felt she was avoiding me.” The telling sign that Kate wasn’t very happy with the bride was the fact that she had chosen to avoid responding to her close friend’s message for so long.

Having it confirmed

After hearing nothing from Kate, the bride turned to another of her bridesmaids to find out what was going on with her friend. That’s when the bride had it confirmed to her that her good friend Kate wasn’t very happy with her, at all.

According to the other bridesmaid, Kate was angry with the bride. Kate was allegedly unhappy because she felt as though the bride was trying to make her look overweight, not pregnant.

Getting annoyed

The bride might have been annoyed at the time, but she seemed happy to put it all behind her and Kate. That was until she discovered Kate was angry with her for what she said to her during the photoshoot.

If Kate was going to be angry with her, then the bride could be angry with Kate. As far as the bride could tell she was the one who had the right to be upset.

Paying for a service

One problem the bride had with Kate was the amount of money that was spent on the wedding photographs. They didn’t come cheap, and it was her right to have them turn out exactly how she wanted them.

The bride said she had paid for a wedding shoot, not for maternity pics. After giving the Reddit thread all of the information, she wanted them to let her know if she had done the right thing.

On her side

The bride had wanted people to either validate her actions, or tell her that she was completely wrong for doing what she did. One responder told the bride she was totally in the right for asking Kate to stop drawing attention to herself and her bump.

They said the photographs were for her wedding and there should be no reason why someone should show off their baby bump to steal attention away from the bride.

Opting out

Another person on the Reddit thread claimed if the bridesmaid wasn’t comfortable in the dress, then she should have opted out of the wedding. They added that “making the photoshoot about herself” by showing off her baby bump is not okay when it comes to a wedding photoshoot.

The person said when the bride looks back at the photos she will want to remember the good times, not her friend drawing attention to her bump.

Sitting on the fence

Some people thought that neither of the women at the wedding were at fault and it all could have been solved by some basic communication. The person thought it was a bit strange that Kate took the bride’s request as an attempt to make her look bigger than she was.

They thought it should have been clear that Kate just didn’t want her friend stealing all the limelight when it came to the wedding pictures.

Being self-conscious

The person continued their comment and claimed that it was likely that Kate was feeling a little bit self-conscious during the photo shoot. They said it sounded as though Kate was aware of how that outfit made her look and she just wanted to point out to people it was because of the bump.

Sympathy for Kate

Other people felt they could understand where Kate was coming from during the pictures. The person said they were very recently pregnant and they made sure to post in every picture with their hand on their baby bump.

She said she even put her hand on her bump when in public because of how it made her feel people were seeing her. The commenter wanted people to know her size was due to her bump.

Wanting people to know

The person who sympathized with Kate’s actions during the photoshoot claimed that she likely just wanted people to know she was pregnant. Not for attention-seeking purposes, but to be able to explain what the bump was about.

The commenter said, “it sucks being giant,” and that you want people to know there’s a baby growing inside of you and you’re “not just huge.” Perhaps this was the explanation that the bride had been looking for.

Not about a maternity shoot

Kate’s sympathizer said that holder her bump was not about making the photoshoot all about her. Instead, it was simply her trying her best to feel decent about herself in the photos. The commenter said sometimes it sucks being pregnant, so Kate was likely doing whatever she could to feel better.

She was surrounded by her friends who were all looking their best, and so the commenter thought Kate was trying to do the same.

Following suit

Although the commenter was on Kate’s side, they did say that if everyone in the pictures needed to be in a certain pose, then the bridesmaid should have followed instructions. They did say that the bride should not have just automatically assumed that Kate was trying to make the pose all about her.

The person claimed that Kate was “probably just trying to make it through the photoshoot without crying,” by finding a comfortable pose.

Not caring

Another person thought that the bride was kind of acting like a bad friend for trying to make Kate feel uncomfortable at all. They said that holding your bump that late in the pregnancy becomes instinct and the bride was possibly making Kate feel “frumpy.”

They also noted that the fact the bride was the one in the white dress was probably enough to make sure the focus was on her anyway, not on Kate.
