Cats are independent creatures who often seem aloof or completely disinterested in what goes on in their owner’s lives. Compared to dogs, cats have a bad rep for being standoffish and self-centered. For the most part, this can be true, but not in the case of hero kitty Gatubela, who sprung into action when she saw her owner’s baby climb from his crib.
Meet Gatubela
Gatubela, a Siamese cat from Columbia, normally spends her days lazing around on her favorite spot on the couch. Gatubela wasn’t too thrilled when her owners had a new baby, but eventually, she got used to seeing 1-year-old baby Samual playing in his crib next to the couch.
One day the tiny tot managed to climb out of his crib while his mom was downstairs answering the door and at that point, everything changed for the lazy house cat. The whole incident was caught on camera and later shared online by DLore Alvarez and so far it has been reshared and rewatched all over the world.
A Surprise Escape
The video showed baby Samual’s mother leaving the room and walking down the stairs to answer the door. While she was away, baby Samual made a break for it and climbed out of his crib and onto the couch, before finally making it onto the floor.
Shocked to learn that the baby was now more mobile, Gatubela could be seen watching in awe as the tiny tot crawled around the room. As the baby began to crawl towards the top of the staircase, Gatubela’s behavior instantly changed.
Quick Rescue
Gatubela must have sensed something was wrong because immediately she tenses up and got up from her bed. As the child got closer to the stairs Gutabela let out a warning meow but the tiny tot paid the cat no mind.
Left with no other options, the cat pounced, running up to the baby and tackling him. Grabbing baby Samual by his red onesie, Gatubela pulled him back from the first step and got in front of the baby.
Stopping Samual
In the video, the cat can clearly be seen pushing the baby away from the stairs and narrowly avoiding tragedy. The brave kitty then stood between baby Samual and the stairs, with her front paws outstretched in an effort to stop the tot from continuing forward.
In this amazing rescue, the cat had saved the baby’s life and Gatubela was prepared to do anything to keep the baby from crawling towards the stairs.
Saving the Day
The cat made sure not to hurt baby Samual and only sought to stop him from falling down the steep, tiled staircase. If the baby had fallen down the long staircase he could have been very seriously injured or even killed!
Luckily Gatubela’s actions had done the trick and the baby stopped and sat up in front of the cat. What happened next no one will fully understand, but baby Samual pointed to the staircase and strung together a non-sensical sentence. Its almost as if the young child was thanking the cat.
Checking the Tapes
When Samual’s mom returned from downstairs she found Gatubela standing guard at the top of the stairs while Samual sat on the floor talking to the cat. Shocked that the baby had managed to climb out of his crib, the panicked mom immediately called her husband at work and explained what had happened.
Her husband had recently installed surveillance in the house so he rushed home to check the tape. When the panicked parents watched the tape they were absolutely shocked.
Sharing the Tapes
When baby Samual’s parents watched the tapes and saw what the cat had done they were shocked. They couldn’t believe how close they had come to losing their little boy. Immediately they shared the footage with their family members.
Samual’s Dad posted the video on social media and from there it was picked up by the local news. Quickly the video went viral.
Unwanted
When interviewed by a local news team, Samual’s Dad explained that she had adopted Gatubela from a local shelter when no one else had wanted her. When Samual was born they thought about getting rid of the cat for the baby’s sake, but after seeing what the feline had done she had now become part of the family.
Gatubela translated to English means cat woman, and like her namesake, this cat is now a superhero.
Escape Artist
After this incident, Samual’s parents immediately got a new crib that Samual could not climb out of. But baby Samual had discovered a fun way to play with the cat and as he laughed and smiled baby Samual continued to climb out of his cribs and play areas.
The little boy loved escaping and every time Gatubela the cat would herd him back to where he had come from. Gatubela had become a full-time nanny and baby Samual loved playing these games with the cat.
A Local Hero
Thanks to her actions this friendly feline is being hailed as a hero by people all around the world. Already spoilt by her thankful owners, Gatubela began receiving gifts from all over the country and everyone wanted to meet the hero cat.
Reporters and news crews all wanted to get a picture of the brave kitty and Gatubela enjoyed every bit of praise. We can definitely say this quick-thinking and brave cat deserves a nice treat!
