From Coca Cola to Mc Donalds to Microsoft, we all have our favorite companies whose products we rely on. Some of these companies are so big and successful; it almost seems like they can do no wrong. However, even the biggest companies make mistakes and launch products that customers just don’t like. These glorious product flops are usually so out there and crazy that we cannot imagine what companies were thinking. From gadgets that just don’t make sense to foods no one wants to try, here are some of the most misguided products big companies have ever tried to launch.

Wasabi Kit Kat


Everybody loves Kit Kat, and you can find them on shelves everywhere in the world. In some countries, Nestle has decided to explore the local flavors, and you might see some unique Kit Kat flavors on shelves.

From Hazelnut to coconut, these flavors are usually pretty ordinary, but not in Japan. Not only can you find Honeydew Melon flavor Kit Kat in Japan, but one of the most popular is the Wasabi flavored Kit Kat. Can you imagine the combination of chocolate and Wasabi? Let’s hope this flavor combo doesn’t catch on elsewhere!



New Coke


Over the years, Coca Cola has become one of the biggest brands in the world. However, in 1985 the company was struggling to keep up with competitors like Pepsi. So the company execs decided to do something drastic and reformulate the decade’s old recipe under the name New Coke.

The company created a version that was much sweater but had less coke flavor.  New Coke was a complete bust, and the company had to quickly go back to the old formula. Customers described New Coke as tasting like diluted Coke with extra sugar stirred in. The company relaunched New Coke with the original formula ahead of season 3 of Stranger Things on Netflix, maybe this time people might actually want to drink it.

Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino


In 2017 Starbucks jumped on the latest unicorn craze and launched a Unicorn Frappuccino that promised to taste as good as it looked.  This new Frap was made with pink and blue sour powders, coffee syrup and mango flavor and went mixed correctly it looked like a pastel unicorn dream.

There was a lot of hype around this new drink, but when customers tried them, they were less than happy. Not only did they look like a hot mess, but the flavor was all over the place. With a mix of coffee, flavors sour, and mango, it’s no wonder people found it unappealing. It didnt take long until the coffee giant removed the Frap from its branches.



Miss Bic


Bic has had a lot of success over the years selling pens, lighters, and disposable razors. However, the company received incredible backlash when they tried to launch their Miss Bic product line.

Not only are gendered pens beyond useless, but the way the pens were advertised was extremely sexist, and customers just were not having it. Adverts for the pens highlighted the pens woman-friendly design for delicate hands and also the girl-friendly colors. Needless to say, customers were not happy with the product, and Bic had to pull the pens from their shelves pronto!

Mc Donald’s Hula Burger


Back in the 1960s, Mc Donald’s execs were eager to find a meat-free sandwich that could be sold to catholic customers during lent. McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc had made a series of innovations during his reign, but his meat-free sandwich idea was a real bust.

Kroc designed a burger called the Hula burger, which included a hamburger bun with a pineapple slice between two slices of cheese. Naturally, it was a huge disaster, and instead, execs managed to convince Kroc to go with Filet-O-Fish.The Hula burger sounds nasty!

Gerber Singles


Gerber may be famous for its baby food, but thanks to a product fail in 1974, the company is now also famous for its bad decision making.

The company decided to release a range of ‘baby foods’ designed for single adults. The Gerber singles range included mashed up meals like beef burgundy and sweet and sour pork in a larger glass jar, and it was basically baby food for adults. Ads targeted students and bachelors, and it was a huge flop. We are sure the person who thought this up didnt last long at the company after that.

Atari E.T


Back in the ’80s, Atari Games was a giant in the video game industry, and they made record sales on games like Donkey Kong. However, the company made one of the worst mistakes in history in 1982.

Ahead of the release of the E.T movie, Atari bought the rights for the video game and aimed at creating a video game version of the movie. Atari rushed production ahead of Christmas and ordered millions of copies. However, the game was a huge disappointment because of its terrible graphics and storyline. While Atari managed to sell 1.5 million units, the company was forced to bury millions more in the New Mexican desert. Recently some of these cartridges were unearthed and sold for over $100,000!

Payday BBQ Flavored Candy Bar


Payday candy bars are well known for their peanut caramel flavor and delicious milk chocolate. However, the company released a limited version that had customers scratching their heads.

The company released a Texas BBQ flavored bar that included peanuts covered in BBQ spice. Naturally, this weird flavor combo of BBQ, peanut, and chocolate wasn’t a hit, and while it is still available in some places, Payday has since stopped production. Thank goodness for that!

Microsoft SPOT Watch


Ten years before the Apple Watch hit shelves, Microsoft tried its hand at making smartwatches. Microsoft released a wristwatch called the SPOT watch, and critics were quickly referring to the clumsy accessory as the geek watch.

The watch offered weather and stock tips and had internet connectivity. Unlike modern Apple watches, the SPOT watch had a traditional digital watch display, and users have to make use of a series of buttons to work it. With a $60 bucks monthly subscription for the watch to connect to the web, this watch was a huge dud, and no one except for a few even bought it.

Amazon Fire


While Apple and Samsung battle for the position of top smartphone sellers, Amazon tried to sneak into the smartphone market with its answer to the iPhone.

Unfortunately, their Amazon Fire phone wasn’t well-received with many not wanting to pay for the monthly Amazon service subscription. No wonder then that the phone was pulled from shelves after less than a year.

Twizzler Dessert Filled Twists


While Twizzler’s original flavors are beloved, the company also has tried its hand at some more adventurous flavors. The worst of these was definitely the orange cream pop and key lime pie filled Twizzlers.

While the flavor of the actual Twizzler wasn’t too bad, the dessert filling was a little bit to gross for most customers. With weird favorites lime lemon and orange, its no wonder that the product wasn’t a hit. While you can still find these flavors in some stores, these weird filled Twizzlers won’t be taking over any time soon.

Bic Perfume


1989 was a strange year for Bic. Instead of producing their normal pens, disposable razors, and lighters, Bic decided to venture into the realm of exclusive french perfumes. Unsurprisingly it was a big flop.

Bic produced perfumes in a small package that made the perfume look like a lighter. This disguised perfume was marketed as compact french quality perfume. As you can imagine, not many people wanted to walk around smelling of Bic scents.

Box of Boogers


When it comes to naming a candy, some of the most important things to consider are the name and packaging. In the 90s, Flix candy decided to create a candy that sounded so gross all the young boys would want it. UNsurprisingly, in the end, no one was very interested in this gross candy.

Not only does the candy look like boogers, but its name and the tangy taste was also really off-putting to customers. While the product can still be purchased, it wasn’t the huge success executives expected. Who would possibly want to eat candy boogers?

Orbitz Soda


In the late ’90s, Orbitz tried to release a soda that was inspired by lava lamps. The drink came in a range of flavors and featured clear soda that contained different colored gelatine balls. While it may have looked great, customers said the soda tasted like more like a cough mixture than anything refreshing.

Unlike being bursts of fruity flavor, the gelatine balls offered a strange texture and not much else. Luckily this isn’t something that became popular and while its difficult to find today, there are plenty of collectors out there who would pay good money for a bottle.

Lululemon Astro Pants


Lululemon is world-renowned for their exercise and yoga pants, and when they launched their Astro pants, they made sure to stock shelves. Expecting record sales, the company was pleased when the initial figures showed that the product was selling well.

However, it didnt take too long for customers to complain about the product. It seems that while the style of the pants was great, the fabric was a poor choice. When stretched, the fabric was incredibly seethrough, which lead to some embarrassing moments in Yoga classes around the globe.

One of the companies many flops is crystal Pepsi which was marketed to be an almost magically clear version of normal Pepsi. Customers quickly realized that the advertising had been deceptive. Instead of tasting just like normal Pepsi but with a clear appearance, crystal Pepsi tasted similar to Sprite and lacked a lot of the caramel flavors of ordinary Pepsi.

Cereal giant Kellogg’s may have had humble beginnings but today it is that world’s most popular cereal brand. Over the decades the company has come up with plenty of great ideas, but sadly the Breakfast Mates wasn’t one of them.

From juice cleanses to fad diets, the juice craze saw a lot of attention worldwide. To help customers make their own juices at home, Juicero Press released its special home press.

Unlike conventional juicers, the Juicero Press used prepacked sachets that customers had to buy. The whole draw was that it was mess-free juicing, but when customers discovered that the sachets contained pre-juiced veg, it became clear that the Juicero Press was a fraud. The company had to buy hack juicers from its customers and went bankrupt.

Easy squirt Ketchup is a godsend because it helps you squeeze out every last drop of sauce. However, when Heinz released its funky purple ketchup, it went a step too far.

In the 50s and 60s, Pez decided to search for new flavors. Having built a collection of fruity flavors, the company believed that they needed to find flavors that would be more appealing to kids.

So the company decided to move from fruit flavors to plant flavors. They released licorice and chlorophyll flavors that did very poorly. Kids hated these flavors, and the chlorophyll tasted more like spinach and rosemary than candy. Later the company realized flower failure to appeal to teens, but this too was a big flop. Since then, Pez only comes in fruit flavors.

Pepsi Blue


It seems Pepsi hasn’t had much luck at launching bold new flavors. While Pepsi Clear didnt do well, Pepsi’s next new thing also failed to create a buzz.

Not only did they have a weird name that was difficult to market, but they were also heavier and bigger than other MP3 players on the market. Delorean Dmc-12


You may recognize the Delorean as the time machine from the BAck to the Future trilogy, but that’s pretty much all the fame the car received. Produced from 1981, the Delorean had unique gull-wing doors, stainless steel finish, and futuristic design.

Sadly the car was only produced for a few years, and due to quality, performance, and safety issues, it didnt do well on the market. Today collectors will pay big bucks for Delorean’s in good condition, but because the cars didnt run well for long, there aren’t many out there that are still running.
