A-list career

Tom Cruise has really cashed in on being one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The action movie star has amassed an impressive net worth of $570 million, and that’s probably only going to keep growing as he stars in more films. His money earned through box office smash after box office smash means he can buy just about anything he could ever want.
Cruise is fond of adventure and buys himself some impressive toys like motorcycles, cars, and even fancy vacations. He is one of the top earning stars in Hollywood, and that has allowed him to live in a lovely home. The actor built himself a compound in Colorado which is now estimated to be worth $59 million.
We’re taking a peek inside Cruise’s amazing house and showing you around the home of the megastar.

A-list career

Cruise didn’t become one of the richest actors in history by appearing in a few average films. No, Cruise has become such a big star by featuring in some of the most iconic movies of all time. His credits are impressive and include; Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Rain Man, Minority Report, The Last Samurai, and Jack Reacher.

Cruise has become the go-to guy when studios want a movie to do well at the box office, and that means the actor gets paid huge sums. He mostly keeps his private life a secret, but many of us know all about his religious beliefs and the church that he follows. His private lifestyle doesn’t always keep him out of the headlines however.

Keeping to himself

When Cruise burst onto the scene in the 1980s, he discovered that there was a lot of unwanted attention on his private life. If the action star was ever going to be able to live his life on his terms, he had to get away from it all. That’s why he bought and created this compound during the 1990s with his then-wife, Nicole Kidman.

Since then, Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes, and they introduced their child, Suri, to the world in a photoshoot done inside this home. Where could be more out of the way for the private star than up in the Colorado mountains? His house is nestled in isolation in the mountains of Telluride.

A home for all seasons

Cruise has actually tried to offload this home twice before but wasn’t willing to part with it unless someone matched his asking price. The actor was demanding $59 million for the property, and he believes it is really worth that much because of what the new owner would be getting. There is 298 acres of land for Cruise to enjoy and the main home spans 10,000 square feet.

That’s not all though, and there is a three-bedroom guest house, library, swimming pool, sports court, and of course, a gym for Cruise to workout in. One of the best things about the house is that it’s great to live in all-year-round as each new season brings a different landscape.

As private as can be

Although there is plenty to enjoy around Tom Cruise’s compound, the most important thing it seems for the actor was privacy. He was pretty much one of the most famous people in the world during the ‘90s, so he needed somewhere he could call home that didn’t have paparazzi camped outside.

If anyone was getting a shot of Cruise at home in this property, they were literally going to have to camp out as it’s more or less in the wilderness. Cruise didn’t want to stick around Los Angeles any longer than he needed to and would retreat to his home in the woods to get away from La La Land.

One with the environment

The cabin in the woods seems like a world away from the fancy mansions the world’s most famous actors and actresses live in. Cruise wanted to be at one with nature, and his retreat allowed him to get his hands dirty right on his doorstep. Living somewhere like this in California might have been a risk as people would have found him, but in Colorado, Cruise felt safe.

As no one was nearby, Cruise was able to leave his drapes open at all times because there wouldn’t be anyone trying to spy on him. The compound was actually partly designed by Cruise to fit his every need as the budding Hollywood actor began to accept his stardom.

A homely feel

Cruise didn’t want his home to feel like a fancy Hollywood mansion, so he made sure to give it the personal touch when designing the interior. It is a big property, but Cruise has used smaller rooms to make it feel cozier.

The house feels very rustic and combines a traditional stone fireplace with plenty of wooden beams to make it feel a part of the forest outside. To soften the room, a little Cruise has placed a giant rug in the middle of the floor.

Getting cozy by the fire

When he’s relaxing at home one thing Cruise doesn’t have to worry about is feeling cozy. He has perfectly designed his home so that comfort is the main priority and with this fireplace, he can wrap himself under a blanket and block out the cold weather.

Cruise can come home after a day spent on the slopes, get the fire lit, and look back on the fun he’s had for one day. What goes down great after a day spent on the slopes? Toasted marshmallows from his fire!

Somewhere to lose yourself

Cruise lives a pretty hectic lifestyle thanks to all of the movies he ends up, so he needs somewhere that can take him away from all of that. This is his library where he can transport himself to another world by opening a book. Maybe he can find some inspiration for another movie by dipping into a world created by an author.

No retreat would be complete without a stash of books, and by the looks of it, Cruise likes to spend much of his time reading.

Plenty of space

With such a big property there was always going to be one or two rooms that were particularly large. This hallway is massive and links the entire house together, so Cruise made sure it was a real feature of the house.
Plenty of space

It is covered in wood from floor to ceiling, but there are a few outstanding features that really make the room come to life. His vintage wooden bench and horse sculpture ensure that the space remains interesting without feeling cluttered.

Where Cruise chills out

There are only so many hours in the day, and Cruise does need somewhere to unwind and think about something other than movies. This games room is perfect as it allows Cruise to think about nothing other than shooting some pool.
Where Cruise chills out

There’s a piano in the corner, and we wonder if he invites his fellow Top Gun star Anthony Edwards over to sing a duet, as they did in the film. Who wouldn’t want to see Maverick and Goose team up just one more time?

Hosting duties

One thing the movie star is known for being is a big family man, and with this dining table, Cruise can host the whole gang. He adopted two children with Nicole Kidman during their marriage while Cruise and Holmes had Suri together.
Hosting duties

That’s quite a few mouths to feed when it comes to Thanksgiving, but luckily Cruise’s home is big enough to house everyone. Not only is there enough space for everyone, but they can all enjoy a stunning view of the Colorado wilderness.

Open plan dining

It’s not just the eating of the food that comes with a view, Cruise and co. can enjoy the scenery while preparing their meals too. The kitchen is often seen as the heart of the home and Cruise made sure that this was a central feature of his cabin in the woods.
Open plan dining

Cruise hasn’t gone completely rustic with the decor and has introduced some modern stainless steel elements. Whoever is doing the cooking in this house won’t be hidden away in another room, and the whole family can chip in.

Sleeping in style

Thought went into every room that Cruise designed in his home, and he didn’t forget to make sure his bedroom was a place he wanted to spend time in. There are four bedrooms in the property, and this is the master.
Sleeping in style

It’s easy to see why Cruise would have such great sleep with this huge comfy looking bed and the sound of nothing but silence outside. If he wanted to, he wouldn’t even have to leave the bedroom as he’s made himself a tiny little living room.

Outdoor lifestyle

Cruise isn’t just an action star in his films, he also lives that lifestyle away from the movie set. At his home is a sports court that hosts a wide range of activities including ice hockey and tennis.

Not only does he have a bunch of activities on site but he also has a private entrance to the mountains so he and his family can hike in peace. Then when he’s had enough adventure for one day Cruise can come home and relax in his yard thanks to the patio furniture.

Picnic with a view

As if the patio furniture wasn’t enough, Cruise has a very special lookout spot just for him and his family. Sometimes when you go for a hike trying to find somewhere quiet to take a break can be hard. Everyone else has had the same idea as you, and you can’t escape them.

Luckily for Cruise, he doesn’t have to worry about that as his $59 million home comes with its own picnic area overlooking the mountains.

The guest house

Cruise knew that he was cutting himself off from society, so he needed somewhere for his guests who visited him to stay. That’s where the idea of a separate guest house came in, and he built a three-bedroom cottage for anyone lucky enough to score an invite to his home.

His guest house is just a short walk from the main house, but it’s far enough away that it feels like a completely different home. Just like the main home, this guesthouse is buried in the woods.

Enjoying Colorado’s weather

You can’t choose to live in Colorado instead of Los Angeles if you don’t like the snow. It is thought that Cruise makes sure to enjoy as much of the Colorado weather as possible and regulatory hits the slopes.

We can’t really blame him as the views are spectacular and who wouldn’t want to get lost in the magical scenery? Of course, Cruise has the luxury of returning home to his fancy cabin to warm up after making his way down the slopes.

Sweet sanctuary

There really isn’t much around to distract Cruise, and he can enjoy an unrestricted view of the ‘Purple Mountains’ from his property. Pretty much anywhere on his property is overlooked by the Colorado mountains and a reminder to Cruise to enjoy nature as much as possible.

Hollywood can be a pretty busy place, but Cruise can just take himself away to his mountain retreat and forget all about the buzz of LA. The only thing that surprises us is that Cruise is so happy to leave here at all.

Time to relocate

Cruise has tried to sell his Colorado retreat several times, but so far he hasn’t had any joy. It seems he has already lined up a new place to live through and he is rumored to have bought a property in this complex in Florida.

The multi-million dollar penthouse is found in Clearwater, and it seems to be about a million miles away from his Colorado cabin. Sometimes a change of pace is a good thing, and with Cruise’s net worth he can live anywhere he wants.

Penthouse apartment

It is understood that this new apartment block was built by a fellow member of Cruise’s church and the movie star bought it to move closer to his friends. Cruise’s apartment is, of course, the largest in the building and he is checking himself into the penthouse suite.

It’s known as The SkyView and Cruise lives on both the 9th and 10th floors as his property covers two stories. Unlike his cabin in the woods, this property is very contemporary and lacks the wooden quality he was used to.

Small lounge area

While the decor might be different from his Colorado home, the setup isn’t a million miles away. Just like in Colorado Cruise can enjoy an open plan kitchen that brings him and his guests closer together. By condensing some aspects of the property that leaves space for many other exciting activities.

The apartment comes equipped with a hot tub, gym, roof deck, bar, and there is reportedly a room dedicated to a flight simulator. Perhaps Cruise is looking to take to the skies with a pilot’s license sometime in the future.

Cooling off

Florida is well-known for its soaring temperatures, but that won’t be a problem for Cruise. He can take a dip in his pool that seems exceptionally large, especially when you consider he’s on the tenth floor.
Cooling off

With so much outside space in Colorado, it must have been important for Cruise to have somewhere outside to hang out when he spends time in Clearwater. Thankfully for the actor, he has enough room here to prevent any feelings of cabin fever he might have.

Public Pool

As well as his own private pool, there is also a gorgeous communal pool that Cruise can enjoy while meeting his neighbors. The pool also allows residents to invite their guests, with permission from the front desk.

With Scientology headquarters close by, perhaps this will be one of Cruise’s new meeting points. A Clearwater resident spoke to journalists when asked about Cruise and said, “He’s very relaxed when he’s here.”

Terrace

There is also a stunning rooftop terrace, in which Cruise has private access to. The terrace is exclusive to only those guests who pay the extras fees to enjoy it. Another area where guests are allowed but with an added fee, per person.

With stylish décor, white leather sun lounges, a pool that is regulated to be the perfect temperature and a comfortable lounge area, the terrace really is an amazing space.

The apartment boasts a bachelor type charcoal grey bathroom, with titled and wood décor. His move here came during the filming for additional scenes for Top Gun:Maverick, where he starred alongside Jennifer Connelly.

The bathroom comes with matching accessories, including towels, face cloths, a soap dispenser, and toothbrush holder. Room service has also been ordered to update the bathroom with fresh flowers every few days.

Living Area View

When it came to choosing the layout of the living area, Cruise was offered two different layouts. Both offer a beautiful view from the kitchen, dining room and living room.
Living Area View

The view shows a wide area of bright blue ocean, a vast sky view with skyscrapers breaking up the two. The space is certainly sophisticated with black and white artwork across the walls and throughout the home.

The man cave

There is somewhere inside that Cruise can go and hang out with a group of friends if he chooses. He has his very own man cave in the apartment where he can play some pool, cards, or just catch whatever his latest movie is.
The man cave

There is enough room here for Cruise to host a party without ever disturbing anything in the main house. This is not like a shoebox apartment in New York, and Cruise has as much space as he could have hoped for after leaving Colorado behind.

No unwanted guests

If Cruise didn’t expect any unwanted guests in Colorado, he might have thought they would be a problem in Clearwater. Thankfully, as far as the movie star is concerned, there is very tight security around the entire building.
No unwanted guests

If Cruise isn’t expecting you, there’s pretty much no chance you’re going to get anywhere near his apartment. The pressures of fame can be overbearing for people like Cruise and their privacy is important to them, so this security feature will be a plus for him.
