These Restaurants Went Way Too Far When They Tired Creative Ways To Plate Food

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to up your social media game, then we might have the answer: serve up your meals on just about anything you can find around the house. The weirder, the better. The social media game started with a simple image of a meal that looks like spaghetti and meatballs, but served in a bathtub. The ‘meal’ was then served to someone in a restaurant.. There’s no picture of the person’s face, but we imagine staring at the bathtub meatballs was less than appetizing. However, we have to give the chef props for his very creative plating.

This craze has led to a lot of people worrying about whether or not what they are about to bite into is actually real food. Some people now have a full-on phobia of plates of food, as they’re no longer sure what is real and what isn’t. In fact, so many people have started to worry about the craze that it has become an online contest to see who has had the strangest plating experience. Keep scrolling to see some very odd platings.

Caffe Latte Please, oh wait…

One of the most popular coffee’s in the world, this Caffe Latte looks rather peculiar. Made with steamed milk and espresso, this delightful beverage originated in Italy. Served with hot or cold, this customer was rather surprised when their latte arrived like this.

Looking forward to a comfortable cup to drink the latte out of it, this measuring jug arrived. And we must say, if you are serving a latte like this then there should certainly be a much bigger cookie on that plate.

It’s called art, darling

Now this one is specifically bizarre and a little dangerous if we do say so ourselves. Not only has the can been torn apart, but the salad inside looks a little small to us.

This dish was apparently coated with coca-cola sauce, so well, of course, it had to be presented in a branded can. Doing this for advertisement purposes, this one really confused some people. Anything for art!

A balancing act

There is a good reason that glasses are made for drinks and plates are made for food. However, dining at this restaurant might require you to have some salad-making skills under your belt if you want to enjoy your meal. The best bit?

As if watching the balancing act on its way to your table wasn’t enough, you somehow have to figure out how to get that glass off the salad without spilling the onion across the table.

Did Your Kid Make That?

Let’s be honest, one of the best things about eating out is the free bread starter you get, although sometimes it’s hard not to totally fill up on it! Anyway, after being told that there may be a little wait on his food, this customer couldn’t believe it when his bread arrived like this.

Taking to social media he made a point to note that he was “FORTY_EIGHT YEARS OLD” when his bread arrived in this lego basket.

Size Versus Display

The Chef probably thought this was a great idea at the same. “What can we do to hide the fact that this dessert is so small that it could be served to mice? I know, let’s display it on two much bigger, random items”.

Although, we’re not too sure this had worked out as they intended. With two small pieces of cake placed on a title and then two halves of a strawberry placed on this chair, this has got to be one of the weirdest we’ve seen.

Just Why?

In all the ways we have seen that a drink can be served this is the one that we just can’t seem to understand. Not only is it a little gross, but it seems very customer unfriendly.

While the waiter holds open an up-side umbrella (which is bad luck by the way) the diners have to then scoop out the drink and pour it into their cups. We just don’t see how this is practical or hygienic!

Hung out to dry

Some of us love to get involved. This could be anything from watching the chefs cook our food in an open kitchen to assembling it at the table. Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to feel ravioli between your fingers? No?

Then it might be best to skip this restaurant. It appears as though no one has an appetite anymore. That is if handling your six pieces of food doesn’t put you off first.

Problem-solving

We’re really starting to wonder what goes through people’s minds when it comes to serving dishes. It turns out that even drinks aren’t safe from bizarre serving ideas. Why stick to the glass when you could serve something up in a deep frying basket instead?

Although the holes would have once proved to be a problem for this drink, the bartender seems to have solved the issue with a plastic bag and straw. Glasses, who?

Flying high

Of course, many of us know that a good meringue can taste as though it’s come straight from the gods. We’re just not sure that we ever needed to see that fantasy brought to life in such away. In case you ever wondered what it was like to have a hovering dessert, here it is!

Yes, the restaurant has pulled out all the stops to make sure their meringue has a seat that it deserves at the table as it literally floats above the rest. If only the size of the dessert matched up to the lavish presentation, eh?

Family Size

Ordering pasta for the whole family while dining out certainly saves a lot of time when it comes to choosing from the menu. Thinking it would be a great option, this family went for the sharing portion of pasta.

Expecting it to arrive on the table in a certain way, they were shocked when the waiter came along and dumped a whole batch of spaghetti in the middle of the plate. The proceeded to fill it with tomato sauce. Let’s hope it doesn’t spill onto anyone!

Buried treasure

If you’re tired of a boring bowl of soup then look no further; this restaurant not only has an interesting way to serve their dish, but they have a fun treasure hunt, too. Yes, they really did bury the bowl underneath their faux beach because what could be better than a little bit of sand in your soup?

That’s what we thought. We just hope this person doesn’t mind some added crunch with their meal.

Nice and soggy

We’re not even sure where to start with this one. Sure, bitesize food is becoming more and more popular, and you know just what you’re getting with this meal. However, we can’t help but notice the condensation on the glass.

If there’s one thing that many people try to avoid, it’s soggy fries. Sadly, it looks as though this person is left with no choice. They either embrace the questionably damp fries left at the bottom of the dish, or they eat their meal in record time as if they are in some kind of speed-eating contest. It’s a tough call.

Suck it up

This is a meal that comes in many layers. To start, someone has gone to a lot of effort to carefully organize the vegetable pieces into a unique – and probably unnecessary – pattern in the rice.

While not everyone will appreciate the effort, it’s a good start. However, the issues start to crop up when it comes to the curry. Did the kitchen run out of bowls thanks to all of their rice art? Were they hoping to save on the dishes at the end of the night? It looks like the straw in the background might come in helpful toward the end of the meal.

The British

Scotch eggs are something English people absolutely love to eat and at any time of the day. From store-bought packaged scotch eggs to those a little fancier served in restaurants.

This food is created by taking a hard-boiled egg, wrapping it in sausage meat, rolling it around in loads of breadcrumbs and then frying it. This one, in particular, that was served in a restaurant came in this humorous trophy. Well, only the best for the ‘World’s Best Scotch Egg’.

Tools for the job

If you’ve never ordered so much food that it’s had to be shoveled onto your table, then are you even living your best life? It comes to something when you see the same delivery driver three times in one day, but having the waitress head out back and collect a shovel to serve your meal is taking it to a new level.

Hopefully, that was meant to be in the kitchen and wasn’t one of the tools left behind by the construction team. We have a feeling we’re like many other people in the snap: lost for words with no idea how to start.

Red Carpet Ready

We can all remember the time that Lady Gaga stepped out on the red carpet wearing that meat dress, right? Well firstly, yuk and secondly, we bet she never imagined that restaurants would use her as inspiration on how to serve their food.

Well, this Hot Pot dish is served exactly like that. A Chinese soup in which diners add their own ingredients to, here the meat option comes wrapped around a naked Barbie doll.

Hang tight

We’re glad to see that pizza is becoming more and more popular as entrées, but this serving style might have taken things a little too far. Isn’t one of the great things about pizza the fact that it comes with its own built-in handle?

Apparently, all you need to do to make food look glam and oh-so in style is to hang it from a hook and then hang the hooks from a rail. It’s so simple.

Saving the dishes

It appears that no one was sure how to take this serving choice. Plates are there for a reason, people. Isn’t it time we started using them? Sadly, many restaurants are continually trying to outdo one another as they race to become the most social media snapped hotspot in town.

Instead of sticking to plain plates and dull cutlery, this restaurant made good use of their napkins instead. This option certainly makes the dishes easier.

Room for more

Ok, we might kind of get the idea behind this one. After all, it can be a little embarrassing reaching into the bowl only to find out you’ve taken the last chip. This serving style means that everyone knows where they stand, and there’s plenty of room for dips with these chips.

That is until we find out there were only six chips for the entire table. Better hope no one is too hungry, or they might be disappointed.

22nd-century plates

This restaurant tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it didn’t even matter. At first glance, it looks as though there’s nothing out of place. After all, it’s a photo of some food on a plate at a table, right? Take a look closer.

Yes, that’s a photo of a plate on a tablet served at the table. As if that wasn’t enough, the picture of the plate doesn’t even fit on the screen.

Plenty of choice

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to eat an entire pizza, a whole portion of fries, a double sub, and a host of sides before washing it down with a glass of tomato juice then now’s your chance.

Just be sure to avoid the wooden skewers on your adventure if you want your mouth to stay in one piece. Plus, you might have to think about your next bite before you unbalance the whole glass.

A spikey treat

We have to admit that serving an ice pop does sound like a tough decision. Sady, we’re not sure that we would have gone with drilling a hole into a stone and freezing the berry creation on an actual stick. Whatever floats your boat.

While it might seem like the best way to keep everyone happy, we’re starting to get the feeling that having an ice cream draw in the restaurant might be a more hygienic answer.

A side of fur

Yes, you really are looking at a wedge of bread stuffed into some fur. No, we’re not sure who would find this appetizing either. We’re starting to wonder if the price of bread was on the rise and the establishment was looking for a way to put diners off their side dish.

If that was their plan, then it appears to have worked. It makes for a good talking point, but the added hair might be a bit much.

The other side

Sometimes, we need to look at things from a new perspective to see the other alternatives that could have been staring at us the entire time. Other times? We just put things back the way we found them and pretend that we never tried to change.

One diner was left a little more than angry when they realized their meal did come served on a plate, just the other side of one. Hopefully, tiny portions are in.

Good on paper

It can be easy to picture something that looks great on paper only to find out that it might not work so well in reality. Mason jars have been all the rage for the last few years. Now, it seems that even soup is the perfect meal to serve in one.

Although the diner was lucky enough to find out their spoon fit in the top of the jar, there was nothing left by the time they pulled it out.

Standing tall

We hate to be the ones to break the news, but broccoli doesn’t actually grow on trees. No, they aren’t just really small trees either. They merely just resemble tiny versions of the thing instead.

That didn’t stop this chef from serving up their broccoli on a bizarre-looking metal creation. At last, the vegetable could feel what it was like to stand as a mighty tree – just before they get devoured by a hungry diner.

Knot again

If there is one person who wished their food had just been served on a plate, then this is probably them. How does someone even clean a shoe after it has been used as an appetizer bowl?

Can you put it in the dishwasher, or does the restaurant need to buy a new shoe every time? We’re starting to wonder if it’s some kind of collect them all game for their diners. As long as it’s not used…

Keeping the balance

It’s important to try and find balance in our lives. After all, it can be easy to let work take over our week or feel as though we are swamped with people asking us to hang out without getting a chance to catch up on any projects.

When they said that we need a balanced diet, we’re not sure this is what we had in mind. Keeping the samosa to dip ratio perfect is a whole new challenge.

The golden wonder

Sometimes, it can seem as though there’s nothing worse other than trying to share a dessert with your friend only to have to awkwardly lean into the middle of the table or spend the whole time passing the dish back and forward.

If you’ve had enough of the struggle – and can’t face the idea of ordering a dessert for yourself – then it could be time to get one of these little beauties instead. Problem solved.

Toilet Time

When this woman got recommended a restaurant in Cuba she couldn’t wait to visit. With the destination on her vacation wishlist for some time, the last thing she was expecting was this.

Out of all the various ways they are choosing to display food, this has got to be one of the weirdest yet. When her dish arrived, it came in, well, erm, a urinal! We wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t for this picture proof!

Bloody Mary what?

Now, this is the latest craze that any new cocktail bar is playing along with. Cocktails in all different wonderful and weird ways. There’s the classic margarita, that let’s face it, can only be done one way (with the salt added of course), and then there are things like this, a Bloody Mary which seems to have evolved to have some weird sausage type food included.

At least they tried to make it cute with adding an eye and mouth. Some of the ideas are cool but this seems like a desperate attempt.

Absolutely NOT

This is one of the most bizarre and gross things we have ever seen. Yes, there is a plate there with plenty of tasty cheese and crackers but what, we repeat, what is that creepy mouse skeleton with meat hanging from it?

It is clear to see that is it plastic but who would think to display food in such a manner? Doesn’t it just want to make you run away and never return to the restaurant ever again?

Another Absolutely NOT

Ok, in a close second to the most bizarre and gross thing, is this chicken, that kind of looks like a lizard, sunbathing on a piece of bread, on a mini sun lounger with two uncooked eggs on the makeshift beach!

At least they went the whole way and added an umbrella but this thing looks so far from appetizing we can barely believe it. So you order a chicken sandwich and this shows up. We don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

A sticky mess

Sure, these meals look great, but the bit we don’t get to see is when someone tries to enjoy their creation. Starting with the drink seems like a safe place to start, right? The trouble is, the cream could have melted by the time you’re finished.

On the other hand, if you start with the cheesecake, then you risk dropping the entire thing before you get your drink. Perhaps a plate and cup would have been a better idea?

Itay Inspo

Mmmm pasta from Italy, could it get any better? Well actually, in this case, yes, it could be served on a plate for our eyes to enjoy as well as our stomachs. A lot of effort has gone into putting this bottle but is it really needed?

Now don’t get us wrong, if that was a giant bottle of champagne in there it would be completely different altogether but it’s not, its pasta and it doesn’t make sense. “Excuse me, waiter, please may we have a plate”?

A backhander

This restaurant had the perfect idea when it came to finding the ideal way to serve up food. What could be better than using the back of your diner’s hand as the dish? Yes, guests really can know what it’s like to have cheese foam spooned onto themselves by the waiter only to have to lick it off.

The best bit? It’s not even a taster portion – it’s a huge spoonful of the stuff to enjoy.

The Book Lover’s Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea has to be one of the greatest inventions to come out of England. It involves dessert, scones, delectable finger sandwiches, and of course — tea!

This over the top afternoon tea, is served on a bookshelf, with full-sized sandwiches and jars of treats. This may be a bit much, but we have to say, it does look very appetizing.

The Ferris Wheel Of Seafood

Some restaurants like to use gimmicks to get their customers in the door, and the ferris wheel of fish and chips has to be one of them. This is actually a smart way to share food, instead of using a Lazy Susan.

Everyone at the table can spin the wheel until they arrive at the type of fried fish they want to try. It looks very yummy!

An English Breakfast

No trip to one of the Commonwealth countries is complete without a traditional English breakfast. Usually, this type of breakfast is served on a plate, and sometimes the baked beans are in a small bowl.

This restaurant decided to up its game and offer its English breakfast on a shovel. Hopefully that shovel wasn’t actually used for shoveling, unless it was shovelling down your brekkie.

Just A Spoonful

A lot of restaurants offer free starters like bread or an assortment of olives. This couple thought that the free olives would just come in a simple bowl for them to munch on.

Instead, they got a single olive each, on a silver spoon underneath an olive tree sapling. The presentation is pretty neat, but one olive will definitely leave you hungry.

A Handful Of Salad

This is pretty creative because it involves freezing water in a rubber glove, and then plating salad artfully within the palm.

The only problem with this, is if the ice hand begins to melt and the lettuce gets a bit soggy it may not taste that great. It kind of looks like a ghost is serving this salad, and you get to eat out of their palm.

Spot The Appy

Creative plating can be beautiful, but this seafood appetizer that is hidden in a rock garden is too much. It’s almost impossible to tell what is meant to be plating, and what is meant to be eaten.

Whoever received this seafood appetizer, might have tried to nibble on a rock or some seaweed by accident. This plating might need to be rethought.

Mind The Barbed Wire

On the best of days, barbed wire is something that you want to avoid. It can catch on clothes, and skin which is not something anyone wants to experience. Barbed wire and food just seems like an accident waiting to happen.

Someone wasn’t thinking about their liability insurance, when they created this meal. Hopefully nobody got poked while they were attempting to snag their food!

No Plates, No Worries

Whoever said you should plate food on plates, hasn’t been to this small restaurant in Thailand. Instead of investing in plates, the restaurant decided to use things from their workers’ homes as serving dishes.

If you’ve ever wanted to eat out of a plastic crate, a fishing net or a dust pan then this is the restaurant for you.

Just Put Some Cheesecake On Top

Strawberry milkshakes are a dessert in a tall cup, and these yummy ones look like they would be delicious on their own. The milkshake chef decided they needed something extra to stand out, like a whole slice of strawberry cheesecake on top.

We’re sure these taste amazing, but eating a piece of cheesecake with your hands might be a tad on the messy side.

The Trash Chips

Dumpster diving is a way for people to find food, but when you eat out at a restaurant you don’t want to think about garbage.

That’s why it’s a bit strange that this restaurant decided to serve their french fries in a trash can. If they wanted the meal to be memorable, they definitely achieved that with their ode to trash.

Bloody Mary’s With A Big Twist

Sipping on a Bloody Mary, is an excellent way to start the morning. If you head over to Milwaukee, you can enjoy a Bloody Mary with a whole lot of garnishes. When we say a whole lot, we mean a whole lot.

There is literally a whole fried chicken, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, and tons of veggies. This is one drink that’s more of a meal, then a cocktail.

Doll’s House Dessert

What is this we might hear you say? Well actually, we’re just as perplexed as you are. Now there’s nothing quite like a fruit Sunday topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce but whatever happened to the vintage glasses they used to be served in.

This guy wanted to hide away while eating his dessert after is arrived in a teeny tiny bathtub and for what reason? Well, we just have no idea and neither does this customer.

The Half Order

At some restaurants, you can ask for a half order of the main course. That gives you the chance to try an appetizer, and a dessert without being too full. However, this looks like a half order of a dessert.

The restaurant literally served dessert on half a plate, with jagged broken edges. Not only does this not look very nice, but it might be a hazard. Careful where you place your hands!
