Under The Sea: Three Underwater Resorts To Check Out

With Disney’s recent announcement for the casting of their live version of The Little Mermaid, we felt that it was fitting to look at some of the top underwater resorts which will make you feel like you are staying in Poseidon’s kingdom. Imagine falling asleep and staring up at the ululating waves over you, or seeing flounder swim by, or a starfish glom on to the window above you. Staying in an underwater hotel is a once in a lifetime experience for most and one that everyone who has ever wondered what it’s like to ‘live’ underwater should try.

Resort World, Sentosa, Singapore
This resort in the city-state of Singapore is not completely underwater but the bedroom features a wall that looks directly into an aquarium. Each unit is two stories, so you fall asleep gazing at the marine life and you wake up to it as well. But when you feel like it’s time to get out of the dark depths of the aquarium you can wander upstairs to where a jacuzzi is, and an outdoor seating area. This is the best of both worlds for those who don’t want to feel like they are underwater the whole time.

Lovers Deep, St. Lucia
Moving to another part of the world, we come to the Caribbean, specifically the island of St. Lucia. Lovers Deep are unique in that it is actually a luxury submarine. That’s right this is a fully workable submarine that can be moved around to suit whichever Caribbean destination you want to be at. It has been outfitted with modern furnishings which reflect the nautical nature of it with deep blues being the palette of choice. There are also large windows throughout the submarine so that you can school of tropical fish and the occasional shark glide by. The sub comes equipped with a full kitchen and a staff to cater to your every need. You won’t need to come up for air unless you want to.

Poseidon Underwater Resort, Fiji
This resort is still under construction but it looks like it is going to quickly become a world-class underwater facility. Each of the 24 suites being built will be 40 feet deep in a lagoon off the shore of Viti Levu Island and feature floor to ceiling windows with lights outside so that you can see all of the marine life and coral reefs laid out in front of you. The only problem is that the resorts opening time keeps getting pushed back and investors are beginning to worry it may not open for another year or so. There is already a wait list for this special resort and we cannot wait to see the finished product.
