Not all regions and cities in Spain have been created equal and for those new to the country, to may need a little insider information to help guide you on your travels. Depending on what interests you, here are some of the most interesting Spanish regions to add to your next travel itinerary.
Castilla-La Mancha
Located in central Spain, Castilla-La Mancha is a region steeped in history and adventure. Here you can live out your best Don Quixote fantasies and see the medieval castles and learn about ancient knights and societies. In Cuenca, you can see the famous hanging houses and the historic walled city. In the town of Torledo, you can visit the Alcázar of Toledo, an ancient fortification that towers over the city.
La Rioja
The La Rioja region is home to some of the best wine producers in the world. If you want to see rolling green hills and visit a vineyard or too, then this is the place for you. In the summer you can enjoy one of the most famous summer festivals, the Batalla de Vino in Haro.

Here competitors throw wine at one another, enjoy a drink, and watch the youth bullfights. The region is also well known for its tapas.
In the Catalonian region, you can find the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona with its modernist and historical landmarks and architecture. The city is also a great place to hit the beach and enjoy the nightlife. Catalonia also features the fantastic ancient Roman ruins at Tarragona and the walled city of Girona, where you can relax at the Arabic baths.

Just 21 miles from Barcelona, you can find the resort town os Stiges were you can attend the annual carnival and film festival. With 17 golden beaches, it is also a great place to relax and take in the sun.
