For some of us deciding where we want to travel to next is easy. We choose a continent or a country that has fascinated us historically, has the activities we want to do or we simply just found a good deal on flight tickets. But for those that prefer a more methodical approach to picking their next travel destination we have come up with a few guidelines to help you make the right choice.
Make Two Lists
Wants and needs are two very different things and if you have any mobility issues or dietary restrictions that might make some destinations difficult for you to travel to you need to seriously consider these. Some countries are easier to visit if you are a vegan, think Israel or India others are much more accessible for those who like to use public transportation or speak in their native tongue, like England or Australia. From there you can then decide what you want to get out of your trip. Do you want to spend a lot of time in nature hiking and camping or do you want to wander around a city rich in history? This will have a major influence on where you decide to go but if you have enough time you can also find a place that fits both of these criteria.
Create A Budget
This is not exactly the fun part but everyone has a budget for when they travel. If you want to stay in hotels that will cost a lot more than staying in backpacker hostels. Decide what kind of travel experience you want to have and research accommodation, food, and transportation costs in the place you plan to visit. From there you can see how much you will need to save each month in order to afford your holiday.
Ask A Friend
Friends who travel a lot or a wealth of information when it comes to deciding where to travel to. There are little villages, restaurants, and tours you would never know about unless you knew someone who had tried it. The internet is one thing but nothing beats firsthand accounts. So always ask your friends who have those amazing travel photos or stories because they will be able to help you plan the trip of your dreams. Now all you need to do is buy your ticket and save up!
